I am an academic tutor at Oxford University Department of Psychiatry and have finished a diploma in higher education (PGDipLATHE) at the University of Oxford Learning Institute. I am involved in educational committees at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (Trainee support group, Mentoring Group, Iraq Sub-committee and Diaspora Organisations). I coordinate the Link trainee scheme which helps new psychiatry trainees settle in their first few months of training. I am the Psychiatry lead Tutor at OxPal Medlink which offers online and face tutorials to medical students and psychiatry residents in Palestine. I am the Secretary of the British Arab Psychiatric Association (BAPA) and the Iraqi Mental Health Forum (IMHF-UK). In research, I am currently working with a team of academics and clinicians on the development of a novel, web-based, violence risk-monitoring instrument for use in forensic patients with psychoses and another project on the use of melatonin in acute mania. Ambitions: To build up a new generation of enthusiastic psychiatrists and clinical educators, and internationally to set up specialised forensic psychiatry services in the Arab World. |

I have always had a keen interest in teaching and I am currently involved in tutoring medical students at a variety of levels. I am a preclinical tutor at Exeter College where I give weekly tutorials to 1st year students in ‘Organisation of the Body’. In my role as Clinical Lecturer I am also surgical tutor to 4th year Clinical students. As a clinical academic I have supervised academic trainees during their laboratory attachments, lectured on research methodology to DPhil students and Clinical Fellows, and taught on a postgraduate course in transplantation sciences at the Transplantation Society Congress. In addition I have helped establish the weekly teaching programme in plastic surgery for Foundation trainees rotating through the Department of Plastic Surgery and I currently lead the Plastic Surgery teaching programme for Core Surgical Trainees in HETV. I am dedicated to developing my teaching skills further and continuing my involvement in tutoring. |

I am an ST5 Acute Medicine Trainee and national trainee representative for Acute Internal Medicine. I have been involved in Medical Education throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate training. I first got involved in Medical Education as faculty for Birmingham PLABcourse, teaching a module and running a mock OSCE in Birmingham for Refugee Doctors sitting their PLAB Part 2 exam to obtain a licence to practice medicine in the UK. Subsequently, I went on to obtaining postgraduate qualifications in medical education and medical leadership with a particular interest in educational change and organisational leadership. I have completed a number of teaching and leadership fellowship posts with Imperial College School of Medicine, University of Birmingham, and Health Education East Midlands. These fellowships have given me the opportunity co-ordinate modules, write and evaluate OSCE and written assessments, and experience in curriculum development and mapping. A combination of my medical education and medical leadership experience has led to my interest in social learning theory, knowledge management, buddy/mentoring, and career management. I am currently involved in creating and nurturing national forums and networks for ASME & AoME applying knowledge management theory, as well as being involved with the FMLM Think Tank on the implementation of Junior Doctor Forums. My work at a national level is part of a steer toward Medical Education being a recognised specialty in healthcare. |

Since 2010 I have been the Sherrington Lecturer at Magdalen College. I am responsible for the standard entry and graduate entry medical students in the clinical (latter) half of their courses. I am also involved in providing lectures and tutorials for the 5th year students during their Geratology attachments. My research interests centre on the use of MRI techniques to better understand the pathophysiology of brain disorders, in particular stroke. |
