OUMEF Statement of Intent and Terms of Reference

There is a general expectation that all trainees will to some extent engage in, and be involved with teaching and education. Some trainees undertake considerably more educational activity than is expected of their level and this should be recognised more formally. These trainees may be suitable for appointment to the role of an Oxford University Medical Education Fellow. This role aims to raise the professional profile of educational activities and to produce doctors who are able to take up Lead Educator positions at the end of their training. A further aim is to develop a regional community of practice in medical education among trainees.

To be considered for Membership or Fellowship of the Oxford University Medical Education Fellows the following criteria have been developed:

If you consider yourself meeting some or all of the above criteria you are encouraged to apply via the OUMEF Website. Applications are considered on a continuous basis.

If you are appointed as a Member or Fellow of the Oxford University Medical Education Fellows, this will be renewed on an annual basis subject to a successful appraisal. You will be expected to demonstrate evidence of supporting the OUMEF aims of delivering and supporting excellence in Medical Education as an educator, researcher, and innovator. You will be expected to show that you are:

  • Developing your teaching abilities
  • Contributing to teaching and its development within the University and NHS
  • Contributing to research and teaching governance (audit, evaluation)
  • Contributing to OUMEF and its activities (e.g. Annual Colloquium on Medical Education. Master Classes, Teaching Development Programme)
